ANTA Engineering & Infrastructure
Read quantities, periods, power, charges and signals before looking for a solution. This resource explains the principle, key decisions, common mistakes and the data required to go further.

Energy
Key points to retain. An electricity bill combines a period, readings or quantities, tariff, sometimes demand and several charges. Read it before concluding that “the building uses too much”.
Bills should be normalised by number of days before comparison. Cost can rise without an identical increase in kWh. A bill rarely locates the responsible equipment: it starts the investigation, not ends it. A/01 Principle diagram — project-specific adaptation required
Understand an electricity bill Guided reading
Understand the mechanism, then its consequences. 01 Check the period Number of days, dates, actual or estimated reading, opening and closing indexes.
02 Separate quantity from price Compare kWh, unit rate, taxes, fixed charges and demand separately.
03 Link to events New equipment, occupancy, weather, schedules, production, failures or works may explain changes.
04 Move from bills to measurements Submetering, loggers, monitoring histories or interval data identify end uses.
Prepare a study
Useful data before reaching a conclusion. The visitor can begin with these items. ANTA will then determine which measurements and checks are really required.
Gather 12–24 months where possible Build a date–days–kWh–cost table Flag estimates and anomalies Note activity and equipment changes Record meter and contract references Frequently asked questions
Clear answers without oversimplifying. 01 Why does prepaid credit run out faster? It may reflect higher use, tariff change, new equipment, electrical leakage or a misleading comparison between periods.
02 Can air conditioning double a bill?It can, depending on capacity, hours, climate and building, but its share should be measured rather than assumed.
03 Can a faulty meter be identified?Comparative tests and measurements can reveal inconsistencies; the formal process then depends on the local operator.
Essential glossary
Use the right words for the right decisions.
Meter index Cumulative reading displayed by a meter.
Estimated reading Consumption calculated without an actual meter reading.
Submetering Dedicated measurement for an end use or area.
Subscribed power Contractual power level where applicable. Further reading
