Water
Key points to retain. A planted filter is a visible biological and hydraulic reactor. Wastewater is pretreated, distributed across media, transformed by microorganisms and drained to the next stage.
Plants support the system but do not perform treatment alone. Alternation and rest periods can preserve oxygenation and limit clogging. Plant selection must match country and site. A/01 Principle diagram — project-specific adaptation required

02 Distribute Spread loading and alternate beds to avoid preferential paths.
03 Filter and transform Media retains solids while biofilm transforms part of the pollution in oxygenated conditions.
04 Drain and verify Collect water and inspect levels, flow, odour, vegetation and effluent quality.

Clear answers without oversimplifying. 01 Can any reed be planted?No. Local adaptation, tolerance, availability and invasiveness should be considered.
02 Will it attract mosquitoes?A correctly designed filter is not necessarily an open stagnant pond; storage and standing-water zones must be controlled.
03 What about the rainy season?Separate stormwater from wastewater where possible and design levels, drainage and overflow for site conditions.
