A planted filter is a visible biological and hydraulic reactor. Wastewater is pretreated, distributed across media, transformed by microorganisms and drained to the next stage.

01Can any reed be planted?
No. Local adaptation, tolerance, availability and invasiveness should be considered.
02Will it attract mosquitoes?
A correctly designed filter is not necessarily an open stagnant pond; storage and standing-water zones must be controlled.
03What about the rainy season?
Separate stormwater from wastewater where possible and design levels, drainage and overflow for site conditions.
